Shelbourne have announced changes that chief executive, David O’Connor, hopes will demonstrate the club’s ongoing commitment to “parity of esteem” around Tolka Park.
Among the changes are the decisions to stage the women’s senior team’s games at Tolka Park rather than the AUL. Furthermore, Shelbourne also dropped the reference to “Ladies” in the team’s title, ensured that its kit deal covers men and women equally and committed to greater inclusion in its social media coverage.
I am so happy to see Shels lead the way in equality in sport. Same stadium, same name, same sponsors are the mark of a truly progressive club. I have my season ticket already and can’t wait to see this team go from strength to strength.
I hope others will follow suit and introduce these measures, as well as supporting the 20×20.ie campaign!
